Rookies Around the World

Which of us hasn’t thought about leaving the doldrums of our day-to-day life, boarding a sailing vessel, and setting off for adventure on the high seas? Simply the thought of it conjures images of training, studying, and gaining the experience needed to undertake such a voyage. But is all of that really necessary?wildcat-1.jpg

Take for instance the voyage of the Bumfuzzle. A young couple from Minnesota, Pat and Ali, with no sailing experience to speak of take off on a 35 ft. catamaran, the Bumfuzzle. They learn as they go, bouncing form Florida to the Bahamas through the Panama Canal and beyond. Contrary to what you would expect, they successfully circumnavigate the globe over several years without major mishap. It’s an inspirational story for all of us armchair sailors who have a circumnavigation on our life list.

Of course, the best part about Pat and Ali’s adventure is they allow us to come along. Through detailed writings, photography, harbor logs, and even Google Earth maps, they chronicle their explorations for the world to enjoy.
